This is a permissions setting within Windows Vista.

What you will need to do is re-install the software by exploring your CD Drive instead of installing through the AutoRun, right click on the Windows Installer file and select ‘Run as Administrator’.

Once installed create a shortcut on your desktop or by using the start menu shortcut, right click on the shortcut and select properties.

Within the first tab click on the Advanced button and make sure ‘Run as Administrator’ is selected, hit ok and Apply, then under the compatibility tab make sure the ‘Run this program in compatibility mode’ is selected for Windows XP Service Pack 2, hit OK and apply the changes, this should allow you to just double click the shortcut icon and run the program smoothly. The software CD needs to be in your computer in order to run the software, this is a security measure that we have put in place in order to prevent fraudulent activities. We do also provide a USB Cryptic Key (Dongle) license solution for classes or multiple computers in which the software needs to be running on all systems at once.

Uninstalling the BDE:
You can uninstall the BDE, but unfortunately there's no automatic uninstaller. Basically you just delete the BDE
files (they are usually all in one directory), and then delete the related registry entries. To do this, follow these
steps:

Make sure you are logged in as ADMINISTRATOR before performing these steps. (if windows xp or 2000)

Do a search on your local hard drive(s) (all of them if you have several) and look for a file named "idapi32.dll".
On most systems, this will be a subdirectory called "BDE". Normally, the full path looks something like this:
c:Program FilesBorlandCommon FilesBDE
or
c:Program FilesCommon FilesBorland SharedBDE
It is usually located on the "Windows" drive (where "Program Files" will normally be). If nothing turns up, try
searching for "id*.dll" (since the idapi32.dll file may be missing). Failing this, search for the file "bdeadmin.exe".

If you find one or more directories with these files ("id*.dll", "idapi32.dll" and "bdeadmin.exe"), delete those directories.

Run the Windows Registry Editor (REGEDIT.EXE). Expand the registry tree to locate the subkey
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareBorland]. Locate and delete the "Database Engine" and "BLW32" subkeys
and their contents.

Then try reinstalling this file: http://www.adventus.com/downloads/fullbde.exe

(Full install of Borland Database Engine) then reinstall Piano Suite Premier.

After installed restart your computer then reinstall the software.

Select MIDI Input and Output Devices using the configuration utility that has been installed along with Piano Suite:
-Newer Piano Suite versions:
1. Open the Keyboard Config Wizard
2. Click Start at the end of the Wizard's wand.
3. Follow instructions.


If you are connecting your keyboard:

Via USB direct from the keyboard.

-If there is nothing listed for MIDI Input devices close the Keyboard Config Wizard program, make sure your cables are secure, and that the keyboard is on, and then start the Keyboard Config Wizard program again. If there are still not MIDI Input devices listed, please make sure you have the drivers for your keyboard properly installed. (You may have to contact your keyboard's manufacturer for details.)



Via a USB-MIDI adapter.

-If there is nothing listed for MIDI Input devices close the Keyboard Config Wizard program, make sure your cables are secure, and that the keyboard is on, and then start the Keyboard Config Wizard program again. If there are still not MIDI Input devices listed, please make sure you have the drivers for your adapter properly installed. (You may have to contact your USB-MIDI adapter's manufacturer for details.)

-If a MIDI input for your USB-MIDI adapter is listed, yet input does not seem to be working, try switching which MIDI cable you have plugged into your keyboard's MIDI output port. (Switch In and Out cables around.)



Via a 15-pin Game-port.

-Typical Game-port MIDI cables require that the MIDI INPUT end be plugged into the MIDI OUTPUT port on the keyboard. Please double check this configuration.

-If there is nothing listed for MIDI Input devices, your sound card may not support MIDI In, or may require updated drivers.

-Compatible soundcards include most Creative Labs, Turtle Beach, Yamaha, and Ensonic. Any SoundBlaster compatible card will do, but some cards do not support MIDI In. Some cards used in Compaqs, Gateways, and IBM Aptiva's, have required replacing. Not all computer support people will be able to determine this for you - be persistent.


-If one or more input options are available, and the software still doesn't seem to be responding, you may have to download and install the latest driver from the soundcard’s manufacturer.

-If this does not work, the PC to keyboard issue my stem from the keyboard or cable.


-Some audio generators, like the VIA AC97, may only work if you enable MIDI (MPU-401) in your computer BIOS. (check the user manual, or with the PC manufacturer to find how to change BIOS settings)

These symptoms can typically be caused by one of two problems. These
problems became apparent with the release of Mac OSX 10.4.

The first problem (the most typical) can be solved by the following steps:

You must first remove the receipts from your installation attempts.

1. Double click on your Harddrive icon on your Desktop.
2. Open the Library folder and browse to Receipts folder.
3. Move all instances of CMJ to the trash. These will typically be
called cmj.pkg, cmj 1.01.pkg, cmj 1.02.pkg, etc.

Once these steps are completed you can do steps 1-4 of the next section.

1. Open the CMJ disk that appears on your desktop once the disk is
inserted into your Mac.
2. Scroll down the window until you locate the installers
MidiShare-1.87.pkg and cmj.pkg
3. Double click on the MidiShare-1.87 Framework and proceed through
the installer.
4. Double click on cmj.pkg and proceed through the installer. (This
will take several minutes)

The second problem is related to the default filesystem on Mac OSX
10.4. Our installer for CMJ 1.0 makes certain assumptions about the
default file system on Mac OSX that are not necessarily true. If you
are familiar with using the Terminal application you can quickly fix the
issue that you are having.

1. Start the Terminal application located in Applications/Utilities on
your primary hard disk.

2. You must create a folder. This can be accomplished by typing the
following (without quotes) "sudo /bin/mkdir /usr/local".

3. After step 2 you will be provided with a password: prompt. Type
your administrator password here. You will not see any information
output to the screen while you are doing this. Once this step is
completed (assuming you typed your password correctly) then your issue
should be fixed.

4. Type "exit" to exit out of the terminal application and finally
close the Terminal application window.

Some printers do not initialize correctly. A work-around solution for this is to install the drivers for a second printer on your system. These steps will install a “generic” text-only printer:

1. Click Start --> Settings --> Printers
2. Double click “Add New Printer” icon and follow the directions to add a local, generic printer
• choose Generic for manufacturer
3. To print a piece from Piano Player, select “Printer setup” and select the new generic printer that just you installed.
4. Click OK.
5. Select Printer setup again and choose the actual printer on your system.
6. Click OK.
7. Click Print.

Newer HP Laser printers have an option in their setup to use PCL 5 or PCL 6. Set this option to use PCL 5 and music should print correctly.

NOTE: The 65+ licensed pieces included in Piano Suite cannot be duplicated (or printed) due to copyright laws.

Some keyboards have the ability to turn off what is called Local control. Check the documentation that came with your keyboard to see if local control can be turned off. This is the most effective fix for this problem.
As an alternative, you can turn off the MIDI Thru setting in the Sound, MIDI setup form from within Piano Suite:
1. go to Piano Player
2. Select any song and click Continue
3. Select SETUP and then Sound, MIDI).

When a patch is properly installed, the new Version Number will appear on the lower left corner of the Piano Suite login screen.

If the version number is not changed, or isn't shown at all, the patch has not been successfully installed.
- Helpful Tip: A Piano Suite Patch MUST be installed to the same directory as the Piano Suite program. Commonly this is: C:Program FilesPiano Suite

Yes, but you must allow the users read & write permissions for the users folder.
Once complete, members of the group "Users" will be able to run the software.

If any patches are already installed, jump to Step 4.

1. Login as Administrator
2. Install Piano Suite and or CMJ
3. You may require software upgrades or patches to be installed which you can download here.

Changing the security permissions of the Piano Suite folder to allow "Users" modify rights.
4. Right click on the Piano Suite folder or CMJ Folder (default: C:Program FilesPiano Suite or C:Program Filescmj)
Select Properties
Select the Security tab.
In the Name box select "Users"
Make sure the Allow column has a check-mark for Modify

5. Using Regedt32.exe, change the security permissions to allow "Users" Full Control of the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftware Adventus registry key.
Click on the Start Menu.
Select Run.
Type in "regedt32" and hit OK.
This will open up a program called Registry Editor.
Select Window.
Select HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
A Window labeled HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE should come to the front.
Double click on SOFTWARE to expand the tree.
Click once on Adventus.
Select Security from the Registry Editor Menu.
Select Preferences.
This should bring up a window with the title Permissions for Adventus.
In the Name box select "Users".
In the Permissions box, Make sure Allow has a check-mark for Full Control .

This is sometimes caused when the 'MIDI' instrument synthesis of your sound card is not loud enough compared to the 'WAV' volume. Look for the Windows speaker icon on the bottom right of your screen, and double-click it. You should see a mixer with several columns, one of them being 'wav' volume, and the other being 'MIDI' volume. Try lowering the wave setting, increasing the 'MIDI' setting, and turning up your speaker volume on the speakers themselves.

Version 2.5 is no longer supported, and will not work on XP or Vista. A patch can be downloaded that will update the software to run on XP (the patch is equivalent to ver. 2.66).

Version 2.6 is no longer supported, but once the online patch has been installed (~version 2.9 equivalent), the software will check for upgrades if run while the computer is connected to the Internet. The auto update will enable Piano Suite to run on Vista.

Version 2.9 is supported. It does not require a download, because it will automatically check for updates if run while the computer is connected to the Internet. The auto update will enable Piano Suite to run on Vista.

Software updates may be downloaded here. Support ->Software Support. This will alleviate most technical problems that users experience.

Most Keyboards connect via USB, which will normally be detected and installed as soon as you plug in the keyboard. If not then make sure all the driver software is installed for the keyboard, restart the PC and connect your keyboard.
Older keyboards have a MIDI connection, a small round connector with 5 pins. This means you need a MIDI to USB adapter. Install the software driver for the MIDI to USB adapter, restart your PC, connect the adapter between the musical keyboard and to the USB port on your computer, and turn your PC back on.
Once this is done, the operating system will detect your keyboard. Now you need to 'select' the musical keyboard from within Children's Music Journey. From the main menu, click the tools icon, and choose sound setup. Select your keyboard as the MIDI input, and select the most appropriate MIDI output. Test the output first using the test button, then test the input by pressing a key on the keyboard.
